Our Story

At Sankofa Baby Doula Services, LLC, we believe in the power of traditional childbirth for a more sustainable future. Our doulas embrace the ancient ways of childbearing, which our ancestors knew so well. Choosing us means choosing our entire Sankofa Village, where we provide a holistic approach to pregnancy and childbirth that focuses on the divine nature of the process.
In today's world, newer and faster don't always mean better. Many families are caught up in an over-medicalized definition of pregnancy that instills fear and apprehension. Our bodies were created to carry and sustain life, and we believe that a return to ancient ways can help us rediscover the divine nature of childbirth, taking our focus off the intimidating imagery and creating a more beautiful and sustainable future. Our Team
Chinita Benjamin, MAT, MTh, M.Div, D.Min, IECMH, affectionately known as Dr. Sheena is an educator, scholar, researcher, advocate, speaker, pastor, and legacy builder who has traveled around the world to gain a greater understanding of the connectedness of women. She uses her expertise to promote resourcefulness in African American families during the childbearing years.
She encourages women and families to reach back to take hold of the best that previous generations have to teach, so they can be equipped to move forward and toward their fullest potential.
Along with supporting women during the childbearing years, Dr. Sheena focuses on providing educational resources on the fundamentals of birth and postpartum.

Neville Benjamin, CEO. Forming bonds of men and family is one of its many core values for Neville. In his spare time, he mentors several young men on how to be strong fathers and family men. Developing the required maturity to be a father, as with anything else in life, needs a guiding hand from those with experience and a willing heart to help.

Birthing Guidance
Offering Support
With my Birthing Guidance, I offer unwavering support to you and your family before, during, and after birth. I will stay in close contact in order to routinely check how you’re doing and step in with anything you might need.

Pregnancy, birth, and the early days of child-rearing can be very scary and stressful. My role with my Postpartum Support service is to ensure you get the best information and care possible. No matter when you need me, I will be there offering support.

Postpartum (Birth Sealing) Support
Sankofa postpartum doulas provide reassurance and support to help parents feel more confident and comfortable with their babies. It takes a village and the Sankofa Baby Doula Services, LLC Village will help to promote time for family and infant bonding while creating balance and organization during the fourth trimester and beyond.

Lamaze Childbirth Education Classes Available (Private or Group)
Informative and Compassionate
Trying to prepare for a baby, can leave you with a lot of open-ended questions. Sankofa Baby Doula Services, LLC offers private classes for couples unable to make a public childbirth class. Our private sessions will give you the information, skills, and confidence you need to have an empowering birth experience and journey into new parenthood.

She massaged me and had me get into different positions to help with the birthing process. She played music that I liked and also had different essential oils to keep me calm and relaxed me.
